When you decide to develop your intuition, you’re saying yes to a deeper relationship with yourself. A quieter clarity. A steadier kind of inner confidence.
And you’re not the only one feeling the pull. Intuition has moved from the fringes to the center of how many of us live, work, create, and navigate change. We’re remembering that the guidance we most need lives inside us.
However you arrive at this exploration, your intuition will meet you there.
What Is Intuition?
Call it a gut feeling, a hunch, a whisper, a knowing. Intuition is the ability to understand something instantly—without analysis or effort. It’s the part of you that just knows.
You’ve likely felt it:
- An uneasy feeling about a business decision… then a more aligned opportunity appears.
- A nudge toward the exact place your partner’s keys have gone missing.
- A sudden urge to change your route… and a new favorite coffee shop pops into your life.
Intuition is deeply personal. It rises from within, often quietly, often without explanation. It is the voice of your higher self—what Dean Koontz once called “seeing with the soul.”
Its only job is to guide you toward your most authentic expression.
Who Can Develop Their Intuition?
Everyone. Intuition is innate. It isn’t reserved for psychics or the spiritually elite. Some people simply use it more often—or trust it more easily.
But intuition is a muscle. And anyone can strengthen it.
This is the best news, because when you honor and develop your intuition, you unlock two essential capacities:
greater self-awareness and greater self-reliance.
Develop Intuition to Expand Your Self-Awareness
Your intuition wants to illuminate your path. And part of that illumination is you seeing yourself more clearly.
As your intuitive awareness grows, you naturally become more conscious of your thoughts, emotions, choices, relationships, reactions, and patterns. You begin to notice the beliefs that lift you—and the ones that quietly restrict you.
Over time, intuition invites you closer to your wholeness. It helps you sense the fears, impulses, and outdated stories that are ready to be released. It brings forward a clearer picture of who you are and who you’re becoming.
Develop Intuition to Build Self-Trust and Self-Reliance
Most of us grew up looking outside ourselves for answers—parents, teachers, peers, systems, experts. There’s nothing wrong with seeking perspective. But relying on others as the authority of your life dilutes your inner power.
Developing your intuition reconnects you to your truth.
You start trusting your own timing. Your own yes. Your own no.
As that trust builds, so does confidence and genuine self-reliance.
Ultimately, intuition is an act of self-alignment. When you follow your intuitive guidance, you are choosing yourself.
6 Practices To Help You Develop Your Intuition
1. Slow Down and Be Present
Intuition lives in the present moment.
When we’re looping on the past, bracing for the future, or lost in overthinking, we disconnect from the subtle messages trying to reach us.
Slowing down—even for a few breaths—creates space to notice what’s actually happening now.
Meditation is one of the simplest ways to return to presence. You don’t need long sits or perfect stillness. Even five minutes of intentional quiet helps clear mental static so your intuitive voice can come through.
If you want a gentle place to begin, try my free guided meditation, Awaken Your Intuition. It’s designed to help you soften inward and reconnect with the quiet wisdom already moving within you.
2. Learn How Your Intuition Speaks to You
We often ask, “How do I know it’s intuition and not imagination?”
The answer: intuition carries a distinct feeling-tone—quiet, loving, neutral. Never frantic or fear-based.
But the way it arrives is unique to each person.
You may notice:
- images,
- sensations,
- words or phrases,
- a sudden knowing,
- or a slow, steady awareness growing over time.
Stay curious. Pay attention. Your intuition has its own language, and it reveals itself the more you listen.
3. Get Into Flow
Intuition loves movement—gentle, natural, unforced.
This is why insights show up in the shower, on a walk, while cooking, gardening, or doing something creative. When your analytical mind relaxes, your intuitive channels open.
Follow the activities that absorb you. Let your attention soften. See what rises.
4. Ask Your Intuition Questions
A simple, powerful practice:
Open a journal and write at the top of the page:
“One thing my intuition is telling me now…”
Then write fast. No editing. No analyzing. Fill the page.
Another favorite:
“What’s going on?”
Then free-write for a few minutes and see what comes forward.
Often, the truth is already there—waiting to be acknowledged.
5. Practice With Low-Stakes Decisions
Take your intuition out into the world for a test drive and see what happens when you make decisions based purely on your intuitive hits.
Play with your intuition.
Let it guide your choice of socks, your route home, your lunch order. Notice the energetic “click” when something feels aligned. This light-hearted experimentation builds your intuitive muscles without pressure.
The more you practice, the easier it becomes to recognize that familiar feeling of inner alignment.
6. Record and Validate Your Intuitive Hits
Intuitive moments are easy to overlook unless you capture them.
Keep a notes app or journal dedicated to intuitive guidance.
Recording your insights does two things:
- You build evidence that your intuition is real and reliable.
- You strengthen your relationship with it by validating it.
A small example: I once felt the odd urge to buy two ready-to-bake pizzas—something we rarely eat. I didn’t question it. That evening, friends arrived unexpectedly, and dinner was already handled. A small nudge, a perfect fit.
You start to see that intuition really does support you in the daily, ordinary parts of life—not just the big decisions.
Your Intuition Is a Source of Power
Developing your intuition reconnects you with your inner guidance, strengthens your self-awareness, and deepens your self-trust. It clears the static so you can hear the truth that’s been there all along.
And it can even be fun.
