Every leap into the unknown begins the same way: with a wobble, a breath, and a return to your own two feet. Grounding is how we remember our instincts, our wisdom, and our place in the present moment.
I’ve been playing with this notion of “finding one’s feet.” It refers to newborn animals wobbling and steadying themselves as they learn to stand.
You definitely want to Google “newborn foal walking” to marvel at the miracle of instincts kicking in. Most foals find their feet within the first hour of being born. Amazing!
Life invites us into uncharted territory where we stumble and sway. You can think of it as being born into a new reality. And like the newborn foal, stumbling and staggering are evidence of our instincts and innate wisdom at work – reorienting to and re-balancing in the new terrain.
It all begins with grounding. Get your feet beneath you. Bring your focus to the very present moment. Find balance in the most immediate dimensions of space and time.
As the Chinese proverb goes (in its original translation),
The journey of a thousand miles starts beneath one’s feet.
